Coffee Plantation

A costumbrist style painted scene from a coffee plantation in El Salvador.  The workers are sorting the picked coffee beans brought in from the harvest.  The women wear vivid colored dresses and the men the white garb common at the time.  Jose Mejia Vides produced a series of paintings with the theme of coffee.  The artistic movement of costumbrismo emphasizes the everyday life, exploring the outfits and activities of the time.
