India de Panchimalco

This image is perhaps Jose Mejia Vides’s most famous.  It currently hangs in the Museum of Modern Art in San Salvador and represents his focus on the culture and traditions of El Salvador.  The Muralist backdrop frames a more defined intricately portrayed indigenous native of the small town Panchimalco.  Panchimalco remained Mejia Vides’s favorite location to portray throughout his life, and many of his works show scenes from the town, portraits of locals, and the colonial architecture of Panchimalco.
